There Are 2 Types Of Traffic, And Both Will Cost You

I think that everyone in the Internet Marketing niche or any other niche for that matter will agree that traffic is everything. I don’t think you need to become a “guru” in order to understand this simple yet very fundamental fact.

You can be offering millions of dollars for free on your site or blog but without traffic, no one will know about it and no one will claim it.

Traffic is the core and that is what we are all after. This is exactly why you see so many “Traffic Generating” information products and that they usually sell the most and for the highest prices.

So, let me share with you my thoughts about traffic.

I think there are 2 types of traffic and in my honest opinion, both types cost you something.

There is “Paid With Money” Traffic
There is “Paid With Time” Traffic

Paid with money will obviously require a budget and paid with time (SEO) will require great content and serious link building.

Pretty simple, ah?

No type of traffic is really free. If you want to rank for any keyword on the first page of Google within 24/48/72 hours you can. All you need is a budget and the will to pay so you will be in the first page of Google on the sponsored ads using Adwords.

If you think you can rank for any keyword on the first page of Google in such a short time frame without spending money, than you should quit dreaming and return to planet earth.

The bottom line is that you need to understand something, and this took me a little time to figure out as a newbie.

You need to figure out what you want to achieve.

If you are looking for top Google rankings tomorrow than you need to be prepared to spend money and possibly lots of money as PPC is not cheap.

If you don’t have the money or you don’t want to spend the money, than you need to be prepared to spend time and understand that results will take time.

I know I might have over simplified this but I only wanted to make a point and I think (hope) I did. What do you think? Please comment below and share your thoughts.

Whenever I feel down or unhappy, I can watch this amazing video of the amazing Nick Vujicic and get some prescriptive.

Why Can’t We See More Launches Like This?

I just got an email suggesting I should check out a new mobile marketing product. I have no intention of buying such product, but since the person that recommended it is someone I have a lot of respect for and he always recommended great products I decided to check it out just to see what the product is all about.

Besides that, I like to check sales pages of various products in order to learn and see how different marketers do different type of launches.

I must say that I was really surprised when I saw the sales page of this product. Surprised in a very good way. No Hype and No Bullshit. Just like I think every sales page should be.

The product I am talking about is called Mobi Blueprint, create by Gauher Chaudhry. As you can probably guess, it is all about Mobile Marketing. I don’t know if this product is any good as I didn’t buy it and I am not trying to promote it in an original new way . Just want you to see the sales page.

The main reason I was so surprised is that in the past month there where so many crappy product launches with over the top hyped up sales pages that really didn’t give you any information about what you are going to get after purchasing.

Why is this sales page different:

It is very short.
Provides all the information about the product and what you will be getting.
Short video that is only shows you facts with no hype and big promises.
You can watch a full 100 minutes webinar about the product. You don’t need to optin or sign up or nothing.
Every module is explained.
No exit scripts. If you want to leave you can. No one will bother you and there will be no pop ups with discounts and opt in forms.
No fake income stories and screen shots. Nothing like how I made $213,549 in 60 seconds or something like that…
No bogus scarcity factor like limiting to only 250 copies at $37 each while promising the top affiliates thousands of dollars in prizes and reaching Clickbank gravity of over 1000 (which means that at the minimum 1000 people bought the product in the last 8 weeks).
Q&A – This is really great and I don’t see that too much.

I just hope that more and more internet marketers will start using better sales pages that simply offer all the information about the product without hyping it up so much.

I know that this is probably not going to happen as the sad truth is that hyped up sales pages simply work and convert like crazy. In any case, I was really impressed by the simplicity of the Mobi Blueprint sales pages so I decided to share it with you.

How To Estimate a Keyword Real Search Volume

One of the biggest problems all internet marketers face while doing keyword research is that most depend on Google and the information they provide via their keyword tool.

Many newbies and even experienced marketers take those numbers as is and they fail to realize that in most cases, the true search numbers are much lower than the numbers you will see with Google’s keyword tool.

As far as I know, this problem can’t be fixed by using the typical keyword research tools such as market samurai, as most of these tools use the Google database.

However, there is a way for you to find out the true search volume of any keyword or keyword phrase and I am going to share it with you. As far as I know, this method is the most accurate one you can use and I am sure that by the end of this post you will agree with that claim.

All you need to do in order to get the real search volume of any specific keyword is to simply run an Adwords campaign for that keyword only.

When setting up the campaign you should follow this “rules”:

Don’t target the Content Network. We only want the search volumes of the search network so make sure to focus the campaign only on that.
Be sure to bid high enough in order for your ad to appear in the first page. It doesn’t matter on what position in the first page, but it must be among the top 7 positions in order to appear in the first page.
Use bad Ad Copy. If you didn’t figure it out yet, running the campaign will cost you money. You will be paying for every click so in order to minimize costs you should try to use bad ad copy so the clicks will be at the minimum.
Run the campaign for a minimum of 3 days. It is better to let the campaign run for a full week as this will provide you with better and more accurate search volume numbers, but since you will be paying for every click on your ad, you may want to save some money and run it for only 3 days.

After the campaign is set and live, all you need to do is to take the number of impressions you received and that is the true search volume for that specific keyword.

If you ran the campaign for 3 days than multiply the impression count by 10 and you will get a much more accurate search volume estimate than the numbers you see with the Google keyword tool.

If you want even more accurate numbers than run the campaign for a full week and than multiply the impression count by 4.

Keep in mind that after you get the results, this will not be the number of visitors you will get to your site. What I mean is that if a keyword has 1000 exact match searches a month, than don’t except to get 1000 visitors to your site if you are ranking number one in Google.

The following image will demonstrate the estimate traffic each position on the first page of Google search results will get by showing the click distribution:

This method is not new and it is being used by many SEO companies and internet marketers in order to find the true search volumes for specific keywords. Although this method will cost you money to implement, you should think about how much money and time it can save you.

If you will trust the numbers you see while using the Google keyword tool there will be a good chance that you will target a keyword that will not get any traffic. You will only learn this after going through the entire process of setting up your website and getting it to number #1 on Google.

If done right, this method shouldn’t cost you more than a few bucks and in my opinion it is more then worth the time and money it can save you.

Lately there where several product launches that show you exactly the type of products that are called “Newbie Traps”. These are the products that will waste your money and more importantly your valuable time as they will not provide you with anything useful.

Guru Love: Eban Pegan Valuable Marketing Tips

Eban Pegan is by far the number one “guru” on my list. If you are still looking from some to learn how to start a business and how marketing should be done, than you should take Eban Pegan into consideration.

Additional WordPress Plugins You Want To Consider

After covering all the essential Wrodpress Plugins you should install on on your site on my previous post, WordPress Essential Plugins You Must Install, I thought I might add another list of additional plugins that are not a must, but you may want to consider adding them and they will provide some cool features.

I am using all of the plugins on my blog and I find them all to be very useful so I figured some of you may also want to give them a try.

WP-PageNavi - Adds a more advanced paging navigation to your WordPress site as you can see at the bottom of my main page. I find this to be much better than the WordPress default page navigation.

Evermore – This plugin really comes to my rescue as I always forget to add after the first or second paragraph. Evermore automatically abbreviates all posts when they appear on a multiple-post page such as the main blog page. It has the same effect as putting after a specific number of paragraphs you want of every post.

CommentLuv – A great plugin that every new blogger should be using. This plugin will visit the site of the comment author while they type their comment and retrieve a selection of their last blog posts, tweets or digg submissions which they can choose from to include at the bottom of their comment when they click submit. I installed it as it gives something back to whoever is submitting comments on my blog and it has been found to increase comments and the community spirit for the thousands of blogs that have installed it.

Nofollow Case by Case – This plugin will remove the nofollow tag from the comments which is the default setting on WordPress. This goes together with the CommentLuv plugin making it more worthwhile to post comments on my blog as it will provide a backlink to the comment author.

Subscribe to Comments - Enables commenters to sign up for e-mail notification of subsequent entries. The plugin includes a full-featured subscription manager that your commenters can use to unsubscribe to certain posts, block all notifications, or even change their notification e-mail address.

AddThis – My favorite social plugin. Allows users to promote your content by sharing to 295 of the most popular social networking and bookmarking sites). You can see at the bottom of each post on my blog.

WordPress.com Stats – I love to see some stats at my blog dashboard and this plugins provides great solution in my opinion.

Yet Another Related Posts Plugin (YARPP) – This plugin gives you a list of posts and/or pages related to the current entry, introducing the reader to other relevant content on your site. It is a great plugin to use as it shows up at the end of every post and provides more relevant content for the surfer to read keeping him on your site.

WP Smush.it - Smush.it offers an API that automatically optimizes the images you upload to WordPress.

WP Greet Box – This plugin lets you show a different greeting message to your new visitors depending on their referrer url. If this is the first time for you on this blog, than you probably saw how this message looks like when you first landed here.

Viper’s Video Quicktags – If you are tired of copying and pasting the embed HTML from sites like YouTube then this plugin is for you. This plugin supports the major video sharing sites and add corresponding buttons to your write screen making it very easy to insert videos into your posts.

TweetMeme Button – Easily allows your blog post or page to be retweeted. It provides a live count of how many times your post/page has been retweeted throughout Twitter.

SEO Slugs - Removes common words like ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘in’ from post slugs to improve search engine optimization.

Pretty Link - Shrink, track and share any URL on the Internet from your WordPress website using your own domain name.

Facebook Like Button - Add Facebook Like Button to your wordpress blog with a lot of customization options.

WordPress Essential Plugins You Must Install

One of the greatest aspects of WordPress is the ability to add plugins. By using plugins you can extend WordPress to do almost anything you can imagine.

There are thousands of WordPress plugins available and you can probably find a plugin that will do anything you can think of.

In this post I will share with you the main plugins I use to run this blog:

All in One SEO pack – Optimizes your WordPress blog for Search Engines (Search Engine Optimization). The most popular SEO plugin for WordPress.

Google XML Sitemaps - Creating a sitemap is a must as it helps the crawlers to see the complete structure of your site and retrieve it more efficiently. This plugin will generate a special XML sitemap which will help search engines to better index your blog.

Akismet - There is a very good reason this plugin comes built it with the WordPress installation. This plugin will save you tons of time by dealing with all the spam comments you will be getting and you will be getting plenty of spam.

Contact Form 7 - Contact Form 7 can manage multiple contact forms, plus you can customize the form and the mail contents flexibly with simple markup. The form supports Ajax-powered submitting, CAPTCHA, Akismet spam filtering and so on.

Really Simple CAPTCHA – Adds the Captcha ability to Contact Form 7. If you don’t want to get a lot of spam through your contact form you should add Captcha to every form you create on your site.

Google Analytics for WordPress – Allows you to track your blog easily and with lots of metadata. Tracking is essential and Google Analytics is the best free tracking solution you will find. This great plugin was created by Joost De Valk, the man behind the best SEO blog, Yoast.

Broken Link Checker – Broken links on your blog is not good for SEO and this little plugin will monitor your blog and will let you know if you have any broken links.

cbnet Ping Optimizer – I mentioned this plugin on my WordPress Ping List post. WordPress has a problem that cause it to ping unnecessarily every time you save a draft or edit a post or page. This plugin will fix that problem and will save your blog from getting tagged as ping spammer.

Easy Privacy Policy – An all in one solution for making sure that your blog has an adsense compliant privacy policy that is easy to setup as well as quick to tailor to your specific requirements.

PC Robots.txt - PC Robots.txt is an easy solution to creating and managing a robots.txt file for your blog. If you don’t know what the robots.txt file is and what it does, than here comes Wikipedia to the rescue.

The Robot Exclusion Standard, also known as the Robots Exclusion Protocol or robots.txt protocol, is a convention to prevent cooperating web spiders and other web robots from accessing all or part of a website which is otherwise publicly viewable. Robots are often used by search engines to categorize and archive web sites, or by webmasters to proofread source code. The standard is unrelated to, but can be used in conjunction with, Sitemaps, a robot inclusion standard for websites.

Instead of messing about with files and permissions, just upload and activate the plugin and you’re done. By default, the PC Robots.txt plugin has a bunch of spam-bots disallowed, Google bots specifically allowed, and a few of the standard WordPress folders and files disallowed. If you want to change what appears in your robots.txt file, you can easily edit the contents from the plugin options page under Settings, PC Robots.txt in your blog administration.

SEO Friendly Images - An optimization plugin which automatically updates all images with proper ALT and TITLE attributes. If your images do not have ALT and TITLE already set, SEO Friendly Images will add them according the options you set. Additionally this makes the post W3C/xHTML valid as well. Optimizing your images is great for on page SEO and this plugin will do it for you.

WP-DB-Backup – Creating backups is a must and this plugin allows you easily to backup your core WordPress database tables.

WP-Optimize – This plugin allows you to remove post revisions, comments in the spam queue, un-approved comments within few clicks.

WP Super Cache – You probably already know that the load time of your site is also an SEO factor and can effect your rankings. All you need to know about this plugin is that it will make your site load much faster and it is really a must have.

IM Newbie Plan of Attack

As part of my plan to go from newbie to so called “guru” I need to decide what I am going to focus on in order to get me there.

As you probably know, internet marketing is a huge niche with dozens if not hundreds of ways to make money. In order to really have a chance of success I will need to limit myself to only several ways of making money as staying focused is one of the biggest problems every newbie has.

In the beginning I will focus on the following three money making methods:

Google Sniper Sites

If you don’t know what Google Sniper is you are probably a true newbie . Google Sniper is a course that was created by George Brown and launched on October 2009.

I think it is one of very few products that really did help me and many others to make money online. The main concept behind Google Sniper is first finding an affiliate product to promote and than buying an exact match domain name (the domain URL should be the same as the name of the product you are looking to promote).

I don’t know of many information products that are still selling strong almost a year after being launched and it is the best proof that this method works. It worked and still working for me.

I am going to add to these to method by adding an opt in form on each site giving away a free report that is related to the specific product that the site is promoting. Building an email list is something you must do in order to have long term success and I figure this could be a good way to start.

AdSense Sites

Passive income is something I am really interested in creating and building sites and monetizing them with Adsense is a method that if done right can create a passive income.

The entire concept of this method is to do your keyword research right and find great keyword and an exact match domain. Build the site in a specific way that will get you top Google rankings and than monetize the site with Google Adsense.

I actually tried this method already and I did manage to build several sites that are making me very little money.

I recently signup up with a WSO offer that I found on the Warrior Forum called, LIVE SEO CHALLENGE. The creator guarantees that he will show the entire process of building a website from scratch and getting it to a level of making $200 a month using only Adsesne.

Since this is exactly what I am looking for and the creators are so certain it will work as they are offering a 300% money back guarantee, I decided to check it out.

The LIVE SEO CHALLENGE is going to be live and it started on the 18th of August so I will keep you posted about the challenge, my progress and if it really worked. Domain Flipping

Domain flipping is another method I am really interested in researching and learning how to implement in order to make more money. I will focus more on the first 2 methods and any spare time I will have will be to study about Domain Flipping.

This can actually work pretty well with my Adsense sites as it seems that sites that are making 1-2$ a day can be sold for 200-500$ and maybe more. I don’t have any real numbers for you yet as this is the only method I didn’t have the opportunity to try yet, but you can be sure I will be updating you on anything new and helpful I will find.

Conclusion

These are the 3 main money making method I plan to focus on in the next few months. I will also continue to grow this blog but I am not considering it as a money making method yet due to the fact that I prefer to focus on providing content and building a community and I don’t think that trying to sell stuff right away will be a good thing to do.

However, I am not saying that I will not use affiliate links here and there because I will (and I will provide a fair warning every time I will use one ). In any case, you can be sure that any product or service I will recommend here I have tested and tried myself and find it to be useful and worth your time and money.

Guru Love: Jon Leger Top 10 Link Building Techniques of 2010

In my second Guru Love edition I want to share with you a great email I received from Jon Leger about a week ago. Jon asked the creator of SEnuke, Areeb Bajwa, to write up something that details the best ways to get rank-building links in 2010.

For those of you that don’t know who Jon Leger is, I will add that he is one for the best programmers in the internet marketing niche and he created dozens of great softwares and tools and the most known one is The Best Spinner.

I personally love Jon Leger’s tools as he is an internet marketer and all the tools he creates come from his own experience and in the attempt to make things easier and save time which in the end will lead to making more money.

I am not writing this for the purpose of promoting SEnuke and you will not find a single affiliate link in this post. This is only being posted because I think the content is valuable, especially for newbies.

With that said, If I didn’t think SEnuke was a great tool worth promoting, I would not post this here. SEnuke is a great tool and I am using it myself but again, this is not a promotion and no affiliate links are hiding here… promise

After all said and done, here are Areeb’s top 10 link building techniques of 2010:

1. Buying an exact-matched domain name.

Ok why am I starting off the list with something that doesn’t even involve link building? To highlight the effectiveness of it!

An exact-match domain means that if you want to rank for “jonathan leger rocks” then you should purchase jonathanlegerrocks.com. If it’s taken, go for jonathan-leger-rocks.com. If that’s taken too, mess around with .net, .org etc (stay away from .info’s).

There are many, many keywords that you can rank for just by grabbing the exact domain name. That’s the whole concept behind the ‘Google Sniper’ phenomenon. You’ve probably heard of it, it’s been a Clickbank best seller for a long time now. The main idea behind that technique is ranking websites solely using the domain name’s SEO value, no link building whatsoever. Keep in mind this won’t give you first-page rankings for difficult keywords, but for most easy pickins, it’ll land you a first page result like clockwork.

2. Creating free blogs on authority sites

This technique was made popular a couple years ago. Most people are already familiar with it. It basically involves creating blogs on sites like blogger.com, wikispaces.com, squidoo.com and hubpages.com.

Since these websites have thousands (sometimes millions) of links coming to the domain, creating a blog on these sites means that your blog will have existing authority. Without much link building, it can be lingering on the first page of search results pretty quick.

Outbound links from these blogs are also worth quite a bit because of the high PR of the root domain.

As a matter of fact, many people don’t even buy their own domain, they simply create entire blogs on these sites and direct all their links to them! While this works well and gets you near instant rankings (for free without spending $6.99 on a domain), because of the authority of the root domain, you risk the website deleting your blog if they ever feel moody.

3. Submitting videos to video directories

Most people think of Youtube when they want to chill out and watch something. But it can be a great link building resource. Just create a quick short video using something like animoto.com and submit it to Youtube and the dozens of other high PR video directories out there!

You can place your link in the “video description” box whenever you submit the video. It’s also a good idea of you to add a small watermark with the URL of your website somewhere in your video for direct traffic.

Sites like heyspread.com and tubemogul.com automate the video submission process.

4. Social bookmarking your site

You’ve probably heard of Digg.com and reddit.com. Those are the two most popular social bookmarking sites. Link building by submitting stories to these sites has been popular for a while, and it still works well!

The only problem is that many of these sites have made all outbound links “nofollow” and have enforced strict no-spam policy. But from my experience, the nofollow doesn’t mean that your link doesn’t count at all. And as long as you post up interesting content, that link will have value.

There is debate going on about how Google is factoring in data other than just the number of links and content to determine your rankings. If there’s one other indicator of your website’s importance, it’s your presence on these social communities.

5. Submitting your RSS feeds to RSS aggregators

This is a little-known technique that works wonders. RSS aggregators are sites like feedagg.com that re-publish the entire content of your RSS feed on their own site. So any links present in those RSS feeds show up on these RSS aggregators!

An example:

http://www.feedagg.com/feed/110492/OldCarsCheapcom

Notice how it appears that feedagg.com is linking to various pages on oldcarscheap.com even though it’s the guy from oldcarscheap.com who simply submitted his RSS feed to this site! There are lots of RSS aggregators out there and this one technique can get you hundreds of quick links!

6. Submitting your article to article directories

This one is not a secret to anyone so I’m not really going to elaborate on this much. Just submit an article about your topic to sites like ezinearticles.com and put your links in the “author bio box” at the bottom and you’ll get a quick link, plus the articles themselves rank well on the first page of Google a lot of the time!

7. Creating profile pages on web 2.0 sites and forums

This is what Angela Edwards and Paul Johnson are popular for at the Warriorforum. Most web 2.0 sites where you have to create an account to post stuff, give you a page of your own on the site that you can customize with stuff about yourself like your hobbies, interests etc.

But you can also put your links in there! There are hundreds of thousands such sites! As a matter of fact, almost every forum allows you to do the same!

8. Using link networks

The sites 1waylinks, 3waylinks, and MyWayLinks should be no secret to any of you (these are all Jon Leger sites and services). These are link networks where members link to each other’s websites through articles, link pages and blog posts.

This is great for link diversity, and taking part in these link networks alone can land you first page rankings for many keywords, but if you’re serious about SEO, you really shouldn’t rely on one method alone.

Not leveraging the authority of high PR existing sites using the tricks I’ve mentioned above is a mistake. If you’re not doing it, your competition probably is, and they’ll outrank you.

Make sure the link network that you take part in doesn’t involve direct 1-to-1 reciprocal linking. So if website A is linking to website B, website B should NOT be linking to website A.

Google picked up on this type of reciprocal linking a long time ago and can even penalize your website if it’s done in excess. 1waylinks, 3waylinks and MyWayLinks are all free from reciprocal linking though.

9. Buying old domains

This is a short-cut that few people use. Why do all the link building from scratch when you can buy an existing domain that already has thousands of links to it and simply put your own content on it?

Well lots of reasons: you might not be able to find a high PR domain in your own niche, you might want to take advantage of the SEO value of a properly-chosen domain name, or the links built to the site might not be with the correct anchor text for the term you’re targeting.

But if you look around at www.registercompass.com, chances are you’ll find a great domain in your niche with a PR2-PR4 that you can snag for less than $30.

Experiments have shown that if you buy an old domain, transfer it to your own host (keep the registrar the same) and keep the title of the website the same, it will keep its PageRank!

This can save you a lot of time building up the links yourself, but I personally simply use these domains to juice up my money sites with high PR links. I don’t try to rank these websites themselves because you’re limited as to the domain choice, the anchor text of the old links and the website title.

10. Automate everything using SEnuke

Almost all of the link-building techniques that I have mentioned above can be automated using SEnuke. Chances are that you’ve probably heard of it, there’s not a single IM forum online where it’s not being discussed.

It’s a little expensive but if you’re making some money already it’s well worth it.

It takes 2-3 hours to do what would take you a whole week to do yourself. These are all great link building techniques that you should be aware of and that you should be using. SEnuke is a great piece of link building software (probably the best out there) but if you are a total newbie it may not be right for you.

I think you should first do some manual link building and not look for the automated solution right away. How else will you be able to learn?
